Rednecks may not be the biggest problem ...
Infidel Bloggers Alliance: AL QAEDA CALLS OBAMA AN APOSTATE
Of course, as most Americans understand it, Senator Obama is not a Muslim. He chose to become a Christian, and indeed has written convincingly to explain how he arrived at his choice and how important his Christian faith is to him. His conversion, however, was a crime in Muslim eyes; it is “irtidad” or “ridda,” usually translated from the Arabic as “apostasy,” but with connotations of rebellion and treason. Indeed, it is the worst of all crimes that a Muslim can commit, worse than murder (which the victim’s family may choose to forgive). http://www.nytimes.com/2008/05/12/op...12luttwak.html

Fanatical Jihadists don't have a strong tendancy to "move on."

There are some faiths (or segments of faiths) that determine membership by the religion of the mother, or the father. The chosen faith of the individual doesn't matter nor does the actual practice of any religion. I'm not agreeing with this as a method of determing one's faith, but it is important to understand that not everyone feels the same way and some people are willing to kill and/or die for their beliefs.

Right, this isn't about whether I think Obama is Muslim or not. Since most Christian Protestant sects believe that to be a Christian all you have to do is profess your faith publicly, and since doing so for the media would certainly fall into that category, Christian Evangelicals shouldn't have a problem with his religion either. Personally, I don't care if he worships Michelle's toenails, that's not the point.
The point is that the President-elect has received a death threat. Usually our elected leaders don't get that kind of attention until they've made a few moves in their office. In Islamic law (sharia), the consensus view is that a male apostate must be put to death unless he suffers from a mental disorder or converted under duress, for example, due to an imminent danger of being killed. Most Islamic scholars agree that the appropriate punishment for apostasy is beheading.[citation needed] However, according to hadith, apostates sometimes were tortured to death. The caliph Umar II had apostates tied to a post and a lance thrust into their hearts. Mamluk Sultan Baybars II also practiced torture of apostates. A case is recorded when a woman who had apostatised was led through the streets of Cairo on an ass, then strangled in a boat in the middle of the Nile and thrown into the river. In modern times, followers of the Ahmadiyya sect in Afghanistan were stoned to death. The execution for apostasy was abolished in most Muslim lands in the 19th century either through European pressure or through the direct European rule; however, cases of imprisonment and deportation of apostates still occurred. Nevertheless, even nowadays apostates are not sure of their lives, as their Muslim relatives frequently try to kill them.[15] Apostasy in Islam - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia This is the same sort of declaration that caused Salman Rushdie to go into hiding for some time. If anyone is worried about the economy, it's a fair bet that the Secret Service is going to be doing a lot of hiring in the near future. A lot of idiots are going to be coming for this guy. Lest anyone misinterpret me, I believe in our system of government and the peaceful transition from one administration to another. NO OTHER COUNTRY AS OLD AS AMERICA can boast this many peaceful transitions in a row. Anyone who wants to kill my President is an enemy of my country.
I once took a pledge to protect our country from all threats, foreign and domestic, and I still mean it. |
