Tipping at Restaurants -- Credit/Debit Cards
A few months back it seems like tipping at restaurants was a big theme of discussion on the show. I have a question relating to that that you assholes might be able to help me out with.
I'm a grad student who gets paid pretty well, but never has time to make his own meals. So I often go to this diner near school for lunch at least a couple of times per week. Lots of attractive college ages girls work there, and the service is amazing. Therefore, I always tip what I consider to be pretty well ($5 on a $10-12 bill). The thing is, I almost never have cash on me, so I use a debit card to pay my check. What I'm wondering if the "write your tip on the credit card receipt" tips go directly to my waitress, or if they go into some pool that the all share. After the check comes, the waitress never sees how much I tip, though, so even if the money does directly go to them, they'll never know it was actually from me. I'm wondering one, if those of you who have waited get the full amount of the tips left for you if it's on a credit/debit card, and two, if it would be worthwhile to hit up an ATM before going there, so I can leave a cash tip that the waitress will definitely get the full amount of, and will able to associate me with big tips (and will keep up the good service on future visits/potentially want to have my dick inside them more). Thanks brahs. |

Technically it isn't supposed to be tax free but most servers don't claim it as income, and most places won't make them. But to answer the question, no, first it goes to the IRS, then to your servers.

I remember Keith mentioning tipping in cash instead of using your card on a previous episode and it was just something I'd never thought about before. Before then I almost never carried cash, but now I keep anywhere between $5-10 in singles in my wallet just for tipping purposes.

You should leave the $5 tips, but say out loud
(as if talking to yourself without realizing how loud you're being) DANG I THOUGHT I HAD A TEN ON ME Then they know you're loaded, think you're an epic tipper and definitely want your dick in them. |

Yeah, cash leaves no paper trail plus it's right there and there's no having to get the money. You said you get paid well, you said you only tip $5 (on cheap meals), so it's shit weak that someone who gets paid well doesn't even have $5 in cash on them. You should always have some cash on you, there's no excuse with ATM's every 75 ft. in this world. Be a grown up, carry some cash in general, you never know when you'll need it.
