The beginning of the episode
I just wanted to chime in about older adults. It is my job to work with older adults with mental illness ranging from depression to schizophrenia with an interest in dual diagnosis of mental illness plus substance abuse. It really is a travesty as to how we treat the older generation. Hell, even Congress treats the older generation like crap with how they handle social security and Medicare, things that are entitlements that many people put their money into only to get treated like ungrateful jerks when they demand what they put their money into.
I like working with older folks because I do believe we can learn from them. I do think that you can respect older folks whose opinions might be racist, homophobic etc without agreeing with them. It is important to be able to critically think about what we hear, which is important in daily life. Some of my folks are in their 70s, one individual is African American, diagnosed with schizophrenia and mental retardation, remembers getting yelled at and BEAT for talking to a white woman, but is one of the HAPPIEST and KINDEST people I know. Yes there will be the old crotchedy folks who have caused all of these stereotypes to exist, but there are assholes across all ages. I've rambled enough... Adding the best quote that explains aging in America that Lauren said: "You are not allowed to get old anymore." Such a true statement and sums up the issue pretty well.

For number 2 you guys chose the worst things but its the little things like waking up and noticing your back hurts.
One of my issues with aging (side note I haven't finished the show yet) is I'm constantly surprised by my age. Every so often I jump into my car and I'm amazed that I can drive, I forget that I've been able to drive for 16 years now. The same thing goes for owning a house or drinking. There was the expectation for my brother and I to get married, the expectation was created by everyone in my family being married and going to church. I think the pressure is less for men but it doesn't go away. Last edited by ssgtballard; 01-23-2014 at 08:32 AM. Reason: further into the show |

One of the worst parts about aging is watching your parents grow old.
In the responsibilities category, things like cleaning the toilet and doing dishes deserve to be mentioned. I don't think I ever realized that a toilet bowl needed so much maintenance. |

Oh and please Emmy, go to the gyno! I've had abnormal pap smears and once needed surgery. It's really important to get checked out.

Yes, not having summer vacation anymore IS the worst part of being an adult. If I still had summer vacation I'd actually be able to come visit you guys again and see my Emmy on a regular basis.
