The Daily Show explained it pretty simply on the following show. It feels like you are missing an important piece of it, that the show was set up to go live from the RNC in Milwaukee. No one was in New York. Then after the assassination attempt, security expanded their perimeter and The Daily Show was in that zone and would have had to find a new place within that time and couldn't do it. I guess you'll assume that's an excuse too, but you try finding another place to do your show from in a city that's already full. They could have done something, sure, but it wasn't going to be very good.

I also like the confrontational tone of this explanation as if we knew that information and disregarded it. Could've written it as if you were informing us of something we didn't know but I guess that's too much like the truth. In trying to school us about assuming negative intentions for the Daily Show you've become a hypocrite and assumed the worst of us.
