My brother is similar: Drug addict who's ruined his life and put my parents through a decent amount of shit. I often forget I even have a brother, he seems "dead" or like this weird stranger.

"You don't know what it's like!" ? Fuck you. Millions of people know what it's like. Calm down and maybe we'd have some empathy for you.
