A friend of mine calls the Isley and Speyside variants "dead body scotch." I prefer them, but am just as happy that not everyone else does. It leaves more for me.

lol dead body gonna have to remember that one.
i've never gotten into bourbon. just had the cheap shit that always tasted to sweet & sickly, so I stuck to scotch. are the good ones less sweet than JD & Jim Beam? |

They're both less sweet and more complex. JD and JB are the Fosters of bourbons, lowest common denominator beverages (which is why they're so well known). Bourbon does have a sweetness to it from the charred cask and the fact that corn is a major ingredient, but it shouldn't be syrupy.
